7-day Self Drive Tour through the Baltic States

Trip programme:

Day 1: Tallinn
Welcome to Tallinn – the oldest capital in Northern Europe! Pick-up of the rental car at the airport. Drive to the hotel. Check-in. Overnight stay in Tallinn.
Day 2: Tallinn
After breakfast, self-guided exploration of the city with many historical buildings, numerous sights and cultural attractions. The Old Town is one of Europe’s best-preserved walled medieval cities and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Some of the most important sights are the Town Hall Square, the Town Hall Pharmacy dating back to 1422, the St. Catherine’s Passage, the magnificent Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Saint Olaf’s Church - the tallest building in Europe and many more. Admire the breath-taking panoramas from Toompea Hill. Overnight stay at a hotel in Tallinn.
 
Day 3: Tallinn - Pärnu - Gauja National Park - Riga 
You leave Tallinn and drive to an old Hanseatic town and one of the most popular holiday resorts in Estonia - Pärnu. Long beach, stretching to the Latvian border, small colourfully painted houses from the 19th century characterise the townscape. Places worth seeing are St. Elizabeth’s Church, St. Catherine’s Church, the Red Tower, Tallinn Gate, well-kept parks, avenues with wooden Art Nouveau villas and many more. A walk along the beach promenade is a must!
Continue your journey to Gauja National Park. Visit a beautiful town of Sigulda, Latvia’s winter capital, known locally as the Switzerland of Latvia. Here, pay a visit to the Turaida Museum Reserve including the 13th century German Knights’ Castle and Gutman’s Cave, the deepest cave in the Baltics, located on the Gauja’s riverbank. Continue to Riga. Check in and overnight stay at the Hotel in Riga.
 
Day 4: Riga
Take your time in the heart of the Baltic States and discover Riga! The best way to get to know the capital of Latvia is a walk through the restored beautiful old town. The Town Hall Square with the Blackhead House, the “Three Brothers”, the Great and Small Guilds, the Powder Tower, the Cathedral, the National Opera, the Riga Castle and the beautiful St. Peter’s Church with its tower are just a small selection of places to visit. The Art Nouveau quarter with its magnificent facades is also one of the most famous places in Riga to see. Soak up the charm of this vibrant city. Overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 5: Riga - Rundale - Siauliai - Vilnius
Before you leave Latvia and continue to Lithuania, we recommend you to visit one of the most famous and noteworthy architectural monuments of Latvia – the Rundale Palace. The Palace was once the summer residence of the Courland duke Biron, and is one of the most magnificent baroque buildings in the Baltic States. Travel on towards Siauliai (Lithuania) and stop at the Hill of Crosses. A sea of crosses, tens of thousands or even more, and in all sizes imaginable. A single and a special hill of popular devotion, shrouded in legends. With unique experiences you continue your journey towards Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Check-in and overnight at the hotel in Vilnius.
Day 6: Vilnius
Independent sightseeing of Vilnius, the Old Town of which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city impresses with its unity, many winding streets and alleys, old town houses, archways and numerous churches. Visit the Baroque Church of St. Casimir, the Gate of Dawn, the Church of St. Peter and Paul – a Baroque masterpiece, the ensemble of one of the oldest universities in Central Europe, the Gothic ensemble of St. Anne’s Church and many more. Have a pleasant farewell dinner in one of many restaurants in the Old Town. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 7: Vilnius
Today we say goodbye to the Baltic States. The time until your departure is at your own disposal. Drive to the airport. Return of the car and return flight.
