Pilgrimage tour through the Baltic States

Trip programme:

Day 1: Arrival in Vilnius
Arrival to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and meeting with your local English-speaking guide at the airport. Transfer by modern coach to the hotel, check-in. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
 
Day 2: Exploring Vilnius
There is probably no other city in the Baltic States, where there are so many churches as in Vilnius. It is not without reason that the capital of Lithuania is often called the “City of 1,000 Churches” or the “Jerusalem of the North”. During the Old Town tour you will see the Cathedral Square, the Gothic ensemble of St. Anne’s and St. Bernard’s Church with the former monastery, the Old Town Hall, the Gate of Dawn, the St. Peter and Paul’s Church – a Baroque masterpiece, the Vilnius University ensemble and much more. There is a possibility to attend a church service. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 3: Vilnius - Trakai - Kaunas
Departure to Trakai. Trakai is a place of interest, because of the picturesque landscape and the historical castle of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy. Walk through the town to the old Karaims’ settlement and its beautiful wooden houses. Visit the imposing Gothic moated castle, located on an island of Lake Galve.
Onward journey to Kaunas. During Kaunas city tour you will be introduced in rich history of one of the oldest cities in Lithuania and will visit most famous and most popular sights. Continue to Pažaislis Monastery and the Church of the Visitation - the largest monastery complex in Lithuania, and the most renowned example of Baroque architecture in the country. Lunch break at the monastery. Afterwards visit to the monastery and meet the nuns. Check-in at a hotel in Kaunas. Dinner Overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 4: Kaunas - Siluva - Tytuvenai - Siauliai - Riga
Continue the tour to Siluva. Here visit the Apparition Chapel and Basilica of St. Virgin Mary. This is the first apparition of Mary in Lithuania and one of five apparitions recognised by the Church.
Continue to Tytuvenai, visit the Church of the Virgin Mary the Queen of the Angels and the ensemble of the Bernardine monastery – the place of the Miraculous Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the site of the Chapel of Holy Stairs.
The ensemble is considered one of the most beautiful late Renaissance and Baroque monuments in the Northern Europe. Afterwards drive to Siauliai to the Hill of Crosses, where thousands of crosses bear witness to people's suffering, hope and thanksgiving. Possibility for a prayer. In the early evening you arrive to Riga, the capital of Latvia, and check-in a hotel. Dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 5: Riga
City tour of Riga. Magnificent houses from the Hanseatic era, enchanting Art Nouveau ensembles, medieval alleys and many churches adorn the Old Town of Riga. In the Old Town you will see the Town Hall Square with the Blackhead House, the “Three Brothers”, Big and Small Guilds, Powder Tower, Riga Castle and the beautiful St. Peter’s Church with its church tower. The highlight of the tour will be an organ concert in the magnificent Riga Cathedral. Participation in a church service depending on the denomination.  Dinner in a local city restaurant.
 
Day 6: Riga - Pärnu - Tallinn
Drive along the Baltic Sea coast with its beautiful white sandy beaches and endless pine forests to Pärnu. On the way, visit a herb farm. Learn about the different plant species, their origins and their benefits, especially for health. After visiting the garden, you will witness the process of treating and packaging the herbs and be able to taste delicious teas, accompanied by regional pastries. Arriving in Pärnu, guided walk through the old town and along the Baltic Sea coast. Continue to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Check-in at the hotel in Tallinn. Dinner at the hotel restaurant. Overnight stay.
Day 7: Tallinn
Enjoy a stroll through the romantic, medieval city, which historic Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Town Hall Square, the winding romantic alleys, St. Nicholas Church, the city walls with cannon towers and Castle Hill are just a few items on what to see in Tallinn list. Other highlights of the city include the former Birgit Monastery in Pirita, the baroque Kadriorg Palace with its beautiful garden and the famous Singers’ Meadow. There is a possibility to organise a meeting with local church communities. Final evening in a medieval restaurant. Overnight stay at a hotel in Tallinn.
 
Day 8: Tallinn. Journey home
The time until departure is at your leisure. Transfer to Tallinn airport. Journey home.
